MRA Basketball Program Capitalizes on NEW St. Joseph's Gymnasium

Mount Royal is extremely excited to have 4 basketball teams this season! What a wonderful way to give thanks to God for the beautiful gymnasium that he has so generously given us?

Our basketball program is comprised of a junior high level boys and girls team, and also a high school boys and girls roster.

The junior high teams have been invited into the Merrimack Basketball League, and we have gratefully accepted the invitation. We also have games scheduled against local public and private schools from the surrounding area.

The high school teams compete against member schools of the Southern New Hampshire Private School Athletic League. Local public and private schools have also kindly accepted our offer to scrimmage during the preseason. Thus far, the high school boys have been exposed to very talented teams who compete in the NHIAA, such as Concord Christian and Newport. These are likely to be some of the most challenging games for the Knights this season, but it presents a highly valuable learning opportunity for the team.

As of today, December 7th, we have already hosted 3 basketball games in the new gymnasium. It is a truly moving sight to observe the outpouring of support from the wider community for our novice players, as we strive to cultivate a program that will form student-athletes within our Christ-centered mission, while strongly competing against teams that already have established basketball programs.

Many of the junior high players are playing organized basketball for the first time. Our high school boys teams graduated 4 seniors, and also lost a core contributor from last year's team. It is clearly observable however, that each team willingly leaves it all on the floor.

Fans and onlookers are were inspired last evening against Newport, for even though our high school boys might have been losing badly on the scoreboard, Knights were sacrificing their bodies the entire evening, playing through pain, and diving for balls without regard for personal safety, regardless of the score.

Please join us in praying for our young and developing basketball program. May our teams be filled with the resolve and resiliency to continually strive for improvement, and may they always recall that their dedication to the team is an excellent means of glorifying God!
